The annual John Laing Awards for Professional Development acknowledge principals in every state and territory who demonstrate outstanding leadership in providing professional learning in schools. They celebrate the contribution of school leaders who have undertaken, and supported the professional learning of teachers and others. Eileen was nominated by the Association of Principals of Catholic Secondary Schools and Paul Ritjken, President of the Association, presented Eileen at this morning’s 2016 Awards ceremony.

On Saturday 15 October, seven students from St Monica’s competed in the 2016 Tournament of Minds Australia Pacific Finals on the Gold Coast. TOM is a creative problem solving state and national competition that helps promote and celebrate flexible, creative thinking processes. St Monica’s students represented South Australia in the Primary Social Science section having won the State championship in September.

Dr Stephen Brown, founder and Director of The Brown Collective, facilitated another successful program for teachers across schools in the Port Pirie diocese. Staff from St Joseph's School, Barmera, Mary MacKillop School, Wallaroo, St Joseph's School, Pt Lincoln, St Marks College, Pt Pirie and Caritas College, Pt Augusta worked with Stephen for two days in April and again during the October term break.
