NCEC and the South Australian Commission for Catholic Schools (SACCS) are committed to reconciliation and improving the learning and life outcomes of our students, ensuring that:

  • All students will have an Individual Learning Plan
  • Students will have access to cultural immersion and leadership programs
  • Advocacy is available to all families if required
  • The cultural rights, practices, high expectations, hopes and dreams of parents and carers of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander children are protected and not compromised.
  • There is recognition of the diversity of cultures and aspirations of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples.

CESA’s Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Education policy outlines our commitment. Our Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Education team provides key input into development of curriculum and support services through Catholic Education SA.

An example of opportunities includes:

Yarning Up! - Teaching Catholic
Yarning Up! develops a community of sustained support and practice around ATSI students and communities through a life-long model that transitions young people from school to university and back into school settings as educators.

The program targets Year 6-12 students who identify tertiary aspirations in the Individual Learning Plan (ILP) process and/or are identified by teachers, family and/or community members.

To find out more about specific programs available, please contact the school. Or alternatively you can contact the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Team.
