A Brand New Everything

James Quigley is new to principalship and has taken up his appointment at St Mary Mackillop School Wallaroo. Here are some of James’ early reflections:

"Being appointed Principal of St Mary MacKillop School, Wallaroo has meant there are a lot of ‘firsts’ for me this year. First time as a principal, first time living in the country, first time working in a Catholic country school, first time working in the Port  Pirie Diocese, first time with my daughter at the same school as me!

And so far, the experience could not have started any better. Much of this must be credited to the people of this community and the Port Pirie Diocese in general. In my first couple of weeks I had both Brenda Keenan (Director of Port Pirie) and Michael Preece (Principal Consultant) come down and visit me. I had the Chair of the School Board organise a welcome for my family and I with all community members. I had five other principals in the diocese ring and offer their support and congratulations. I had a very uplifting and inspiring Commissioning Mass with Bishop Greg O’Kelly and Fr Adrian Noonan. I have had a most supportive and patient staff and also welcoming and enthusiastic students and parents.

St Mary MacKillop School has a lot to be thankful to previous Principal John Robertson for. I look forward to building on the excellent foundation already established here in Wallaroo. A new strategic plan is first on the agenda. I know with the continued support and hard work that I have already seen from all community members, the sky is really the limit for this piece of gold in the Copper triangle."

CESA wishes James and other new principals success in their significant leadership roles.
