Over the past two years Cardijn College, Holy Family Catholic School, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College and Xavier College have been involved in the Investing in Focus Schools Project. This national project was an Australian Government initiative supporting the Closing the Gap agenda through implementation of the national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Action Plan 2010 – 2014.
Underpinning CESA’s work in this project are the two beliefs:
‘When Aboriginal students, their families and communities are at the heart of our endeavours, everyone wins’ and ‘Transformational leadership is everyone’s business’.
The project involved the four schools undertaking a Dare to Lead Snapshot, the development of a ‘School and Community Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Strategic Plan’, a leadership professional development program in cultural proficiency, a whole school literacy strategy and professional development project, development of Individual Learning Plans for all ATSI students as a collaborative approach between students, families and the school, the development of a school attendance strategy and other initiatives pertinent to the individual school communities.
