NAIDOC Medals of Excellence 2016

Late November marked the celebration of the award winners for the NAIDOC Medals of Excellence for their outstanding prize winning competition submissions as part of the NAIDOC Week School Initiatives program.

The NAIDOC Week School Initiatives program provides an educational component to NAIDOC Week celebrations and has promoted respect and harmony within schools and communities. The NAIDOC Week School Initiative Competitions have been an instrumental school activity during NAIDOC Week for the last eleven years and supported by the Premier. The competitions have brought a coordinated educational component to the weeklong celebrations and have been overwhelmingly successful, and this year was no exception.

Speaking about the value of participation in NAIDOC Week, Dylan Willliams, Executive Director of NAIDOC Week initiatives said:
"Taking part in NAIDOC Week is a great way to celebrate Indigenous culture and build bridges between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians and to encourage all school students to take this opportunity to think about Indigenous history, culture and society and to get involved in the NAIDOC Week School Initiatives".

We are delighted that seven of our students were announced as competition winners and received their Medals of Excellence in front of their families and peers at school assemblies.

Congratulations and well done to the following students:

• Teleah from St Joseph’s Primary School, Clare
• Oscar from Christ the King School
• Lilly from Our Lady of Mount Carmel School
• Jasiah from St Joseph’s School, Ottoway
• Yllery from St Joseph’s School, Murray Bridge
• Michael from St Joseph’s School, Murray Bridge
• Jai from St Mary’s College
