About the Role
Blackfriars Priory School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Laboratory Assistant to support the day-to-day operations of our Science faculty in a part-time, temporary capacity.

As the Science Laboratory Assistant, you will play a vital role in maintaining science laboratories, preparing practical lessons, ensuring safe practices, and supporting the implementation of STEM-based learning experiences. You will liaise closely with teaching staff to deliver high-quality science education while maintaining compliance with Work Health and Safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and manage equipment and materials for science practicals
  • Maintain safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous substances
  • Support staff and students during experiments and practical lessons
  • Maintain and manage Chemwatch and Riskassess systems
  • Conduct routine safety checks and maintain equipment
  • Assist with planning, purchasing, and stock control
  • Collaborate with staff to design innovative STEM learning projects

Additional Information

About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or laboratory experience
  • Strong understanding of chemical handling and laboratory procedures
  • Excellent organisation, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently with a high degree of initiative and attention to detail
  • Commitment to Catholic education and the Dominican ethos of the School

Desirable

  • Experience in a school science lab environment
  • Familiarity with systems such as SEQTA, Synergetic, Chemwatch, and Riskassess
