Role Details

  • Assist student learning, where some discretion and judgement is involved, including evaluation and assessment under the supervision of a teacher, of the learning needs of students by employing behavioural management strategies to ensure a safe, orderly and successful learning environment.
  • Carry out a wide variety of tasks associated with classroom learning experiences (e.g. assisting teachers in preparing, implementing and supervising classrooms and/or intervention programs).
  • Apply personal knowledge and initiative to suggest modifications to educational programs to meet the learning needs of specific students, subject to approval of the teacher.
  • Supervise and care for students with formally identified special needs including support for individual students or groups of students in accordance with Personalised Plans for Learning (PPL) as required.
  • Demonstrate practical activities within a variety of routines, methods, and experiences under supervision of teachers where discretion and judgement are required.
  • Participate in the evaluation of programs and student involvement and document student progress/behaviour in SEQTA as directed.

  • Applicable First Aid Certificate relevant to the role requirements
  • Current and acceptable Working with Children Clearance and screening to work in Catholic Education SA
  • Current valid Responding to Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care certificate
  • Actively participate in regular performance reviews and undertake training as required
  • Catholic Education South Australia COVID-19 Vaccination Policy strongly advises employees are vaccinated as a personal responsibility, however it is no longer compulsory in a mainstream school setting.

Ten years ago, a unique cross-sector initiative between Catholic, public and independent schools in South Australia was established to certify teachers as Highly Accomplished and Lead Teachers (HALT).

Fast forward to November 2024 and Catholic Education SA (CESA) is delighted to announce its 100th certified HALT teacher; Penny Bateman, from Xavier College, Gawler Belt campus. Penny, who holds the position of English Curriculum Leader, began her teaching career in 2021 and started her HALT certification this year. Receiving HALT certification means that Penny will now be able to mentor colleagues in the process and provide expert guidance on evidence-based teaching practices while fostering professional growth within her department.

Four Catholic schools across South Australia have been awarded $6.34 million in grants for capital works to improve learning spaces, increase opportunities for disadvantaged students and cater for more diverse learning needs.

The State Government grants — $6.34 million for Catholic schools and $6.38 million for independent schools — are for building projects to commence over the next year.

Introduced in 2018 to ensure all students have access to a first-class education, the latest funding under the scheme has been approved for four projects at Catholic schools and 103 smaller projects at independent schools.
