Mary MacKillop Memorial School

In all things Love

Mary MacKillop Memorial School was founded by Saint Mary of the Cross MacKillop in 1886, as the birthplace of the Order of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart and Catholic Education in South Australia. Today, we continue to embody the motto of the Josephite Sisters, in omnibus caritas, ‘in all things love’. At Mary MacKillop Memorial students are supported to be the best version of themselves each and every day, with a strong focus on wellbeing, while developing a sense of care for others.

Our site hosts a wealth of learning spaces in a spacious natural setting, with a multitude of play opportunities is beautifully nestled in amongst the historical part of town. Additionally, our newly completed Woods Learning Centre and reimagined 1936 Junior Primary and Early Learning building offer contemporary learning spaces, fostering creativity and innovation.

In addition to schooling from Reception to Year 6, we offer 2 days of ‘Early Learning’, our 3 – 5-year-old program, and a morning Playgroup, which is open to all in our wider Penola/Coonawarra community.

At Mary MacKillop Memorial School we are committed to engaging our students in rich learning experiences across the curriculum. This is supported through our strong Performing Arts and Visual/Media Arts focus, which form part of our specialist curriculum classes, alongside Science and Physical Education/Health.

Our teachers and support staff are highly motivated and dedicated professionals who give generously of their time and talents, caring deeply for every child’s growth. We recognise each child as an individual, and through our rigorous collection of data, we cater for a diverse range of learning capabilities, offering different and individualised learning styles and experiences for each child, supporting all to succeed, in a safe and supportive environment.

We are proud of our long history, excited by our unique learning environment and pleased to offer you an affordable, values-based education for your child.
