Two Catholic Education South Australia teachers have been recognised for their work as emerging leaders by the Australian Council for Educational Leaders (ACEL).
Each year, the South Australian branch of ACEL honours educational leaders who in the view of their peers have made a significant contribution to the understanding and practice of educational leadership.
The awards are usually presented in an annual ceremony at Government House. Despite this year’s celebration being cancelled due to COVID-19, the 2020 award winners have been named.
CESA leaders Rebecca Baker and Patrick Harmer were named as recipients of the 2020 Pip Fields Emerging Leader Award.
The Pip Fields Emerging Leader Award is presented to an emerging educational leader in their first 5 years of a designated leadership position, who has demonstrated outstanding educational practice in the classroom and leadership that has made a significant difference to colleagues and students.
Rebecca Baker has been in the role of Assistant Principal – Learning & Teaching at Thomas More College Salisbury Downs since 2018, after beginning her career as a Visual Arts teacher in 2010.
During that time, Rebecca has worked across many areas towards a holistic change in College practices through developing key strategic goals across curriculum, subject offerings, wellbeing and transition programs, learning areas and more.
“Since joining the College Executive in 2017, Rebecca has continued to lead cultural change at the College. Through her focus on Strategy and Innovation, Rebecca has been instrumental in renewing the College vision”, said Mandy Loveder, Deputy Principal of Thomas More College.
Patrick Harmer has completed his first year as Deputy Principal and Head of Campus at Cardijn College Noarlunga Downs following 10 years of teaching, with his responsibility spanning across student learning and wellbeing.
Patrick has made a significant contribution to student outcomes and the professional development of staff. He has also provided leadership and support to the large special education team at the College to ensure that students with a disability have the support for full participation in the life of the school.
“Patrick has demonstrated outstanding leadership and is highly regarded throughout the College for his leadership and commitment to support students and staff”, said Paul Rijken, Principal of Cardijn College.
