August 4-10
Along with Catholic schools in South Australia and schools around the world the Catholic Education Office was treated to a delicious morning tea to celebrate the contribution that teachers and other staff make in the lives of children. This special event, now an annual tradition, was hosted by the Federation of Catholic School Parent Communities. Ann Bliss, Executive Director, speaking on behalf of the staff and Council of the Federation recognised the work of staff members in Catholic Education SA who contribute to the positive educational experiences of students.
Sarah Wood President of the Federation of Catholic School Parent Communities spoke of the lasting contribution that teachers make in the lives of children, “Apart from our parents, teachers have the greatest impact on our lives.”
She talked about an outstanding teacher from her own experience: “For me it was a chemistry teacher. She was enthusiastic, passionate, supportive and interested in me as a student and as a person. Her love of teaching instilled in me a love of learning which has remained with me all my life and continues to shape my career choices and my interactions with my own children”, she said.
“Today we thank these wonderful people who have shaped our lives and shape the lives of our children’”, she said.
Sarah concluded with a quote from Andy Rooney: “Most of us end up with no more than five or six people who remember us. Teachers have thousands of people who remember them for the rest of their lives”.
Catholic Education South Australia (CESA) has welcomed the State Government’s decision to continue its funding commitment to non-government schools through to 2034, following the finalisation of the Better and Fairer Schools Agreement with the Federal Government.
