Dear Colleagues and Friends
As we move towards the end of 2016, it is timely to reflect on our year and the work we have undertaken together.
On any account, 2016 has been a marvelous year – one where significant initiatives have been imagined, agreed and commenced. We see the beginnings of significant change in our school structures, preparation for implementation of early years learning centres, commencement of early learning services across a range of locations, alignments of schools and planning for an amalgamation and a new school.
St Joseph’s School, Tranmere, will continue to offer an excellent education into the future. The school will re-open to students after the school holidays on 30 January 2017. While the local council is considering re-zoning in the area, this will not impact upon the operation of the school.
Recently the Leadership Development team at the Catholic Education Office hosted, for the fifth consecutive year, a professional learning opportunity in Cognitive Coaching(SM). Twenty-six school leaders, teachers, consultants and senior education advisers participated in the eight-day foundation course.
On 25 November, John Lochowiak performed Welcome to Country at the opening of the Indigenous garden. Each day, as students walk past the Indigenous garden, they are greeted by a sign that says “Marni naa pudni Kaurna yartanna” which means, “Good you came to Kaurna Land.”
Late November marked the celebration of the award winners for the NAIDOC Medals of Excellence for their outstanding prize winning competition submissions as part of the NAIDOC Week School Initiatives program. Students from St Joseph’s Primary School, Clare; Christ the King School, Warradale; Mount Carmel School, Rosewater; St Joseph’s School, Ottoway; St Joseph’s School, Murray Bridge and St Mary’s College, Adelaide received medals.
as we begin our advent journey
our hearts swelling with the hope
that is your presence.
Show us how to be awake and alert
to the beauty and truth around and within us
that calls us always into right relationship
with you, each other and all creation.
