Catholic Schools Music Festival: Music to Lift the Heart

Songs from the World Wars & Inter-War Years

2015 will mark the 27th Catholic Schools Music Festival, with a theme dedicated to the music from the 1910’s, 20’s, 30’s & 40’s. This year’s theme recognises one hundred years since the Gallipoli landings and 70 years since WWII ended. Over 2000 students from Catholic schools across the state will perform throughout the four evenings of the music festival, touching the hearts of their Adelaide Festival Theatre audiences.

The song selection is inspired by the music that lifted people’s spirits during the world wars and interwar period. While preparing for these songs the students have come to appreciate what life may have been like for their grandparents and ancestors during this era.

Each evening of the Music Festival consists of a 400-voice Combined Primary School Choir (Years 5-7) accompanied by a Combined Secondary Boys Vocal Ensemble, Festival String Ensemble and Festival Rhythm Section. A variety of support and foyer acts are also presented including solo, duet and ensemble items from both our Primary and Secondary schools. These acts provide entertainment throughout the evening both on stage and as foyer entertainment prior to the concert.

The 2015 Festival dates are 21 – 24 September at the Adelaide Festival Theatre, commencing at 7.30pm.
