International Masterchef at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College

Building Community
This year 45 students entered - all full of enthusiasm and eager to show case their culinary skills. In fact, demand was so high this year, in order to ease congestion in the kitchen, an outdoor kitchen was hired to create extra cooking space. The teams are comprised of mixed year levels and cultures in order to build community and create great fusion cooking possibilities.

$25 and two Hours!
Each team was allocated a budget of only $25.00 with which they planned their menu of savory and sweet dishes. The competition began at Adelaide Central Market and as teams shopped for their ingredients. All competitors then returned to the OLSH kitchens for the cooking challenge with a time allocation of two hours to cook their dishes.

International Buffet
The team dishes became a shared buffet dinner for all competitors to enjoy. A tasting plate was presented to the judges, points were awarded for taste, creativity, presentation, teamwork, cleanliness and keeping to budget. The judges had the extremely difficult job of tasting and filling our bellies with a delicious assortment of dishes including Indian Biryani, African curries, Vietnamese rice dishes and Afghani dumplings. Fortunately we still had some room left for the desserts!

Team Spirit
Although the kitchen was brimming with competitive spirit (after all the MasterChef Trophy Wok was up for grabs!) the sense of community and team spirit amongst the girls was truly beautiful. Regardless of where their team was placed, all girls should be extremely proud of their commitment and achievements.

With a total of 10 teams competing, the top three placing’s were:
1st Place: The Senior Babes - Fatima, Appurva, Kinjal and Sorcha (Senior Students)
2nd Place: The Spice Girls - Bany, Rosetta, Solina, Florence, Meenal and Melony (combined Senior and Year 8 students)
3rdPlace: The Rose Petals - Divanshi, Heba, Zahra and Fatima (Year 8 students)
