Role Details

The Education Support Officer (Curriculum) works collaboratively as a member of the teaching and learning team. They assist students learning, either individually or in groups and assist teachers with implementation, evaluation and student involvement of learning programs.

Position Requirement

2 x Permanent, part time positions:

Position 1 = 10.25 hrs (Thurs. & Fri.) over 40 weeks of the year

Position 2 =  20.5 hrs (Mon., Wed., Thurs. & Fri.) over 40 weeks of the year.

Duties:

  • Actively support and promote the Catholic ethos of our school.
  • Be able to establish and maintain effective and authentic relationships with students, colleagues and families
  • Assist with the physical requirements of students requiring special care - Have undertaken, or be willing to undertake training to support students with complex needs (e.g. Continence Care)
  • Enable students with special needs to take personal responsibility for their learning and behaviour from Reception to Year 6
  • Provide general assistance of a supportive nature to teachers when required.
  • Carry out a wide variety of tasks associated with classroom learning experiences (e.g. assisting teachers in preparing, implementing and supervising classrooms and/or intervention programs).

The successful applicant will have:

  • Experience in a similar role
  • Catholic Police Check or equivalent (DCSI screening)
  • Responding to Risk of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care Certificate
  • First Aid Certification

Ten years ago, a unique cross-sector initiative between Catholic, public and independent schools in South Australia was established to certify teachers as Highly Accomplished and Lead Teachers (HALT).

Fast forward to November 2024 and Catholic Education SA (CESA) is delighted to announce its 100th certified HALT teacher; Penny Bateman, from Xavier College, Gawler Belt campus. Penny, who holds the position of English Curriculum Leader, began her teaching career in 2021 and started her HALT certification this year. Receiving HALT certification means that Penny will now be able to mentor colleagues in the process and provide expert guidance on evidence-based teaching practices while fostering professional growth within her department.
