Have your say: Gifted and Highly Abled Learners Research

If they have not already participated in this two year long project - parents, teachers and staff are invited to share their insights through a new survey focused on gifted students and gifted education. Both our sector as well as the University of New South Wales urgently need additional participants from parents, teachers, and staff by the end of April, 2021.

The aim of the research project is to investigate the attitudes of key stakeholders.

The Gifted and Highly Abled Learners research is part of Catholic Education SA’s work to improve provisions for gifted and talented students in Catholic schools

“We are particularly keen to hear from more parents with students in Catholic schools,” said Michael Murphy, Leading Learning Consultant, Catholic Education SA

“No matter your background, or the achievement of your child, we’d like to hear your perspective.

“At Catholic Education SA, at the heart of what we do is providing learning environments that are supportive of the needs of all students, such that they can be thriving people, capable learners, leaders for the world God desires.”

This research aims to provide the depth of understanding that will allow Catholic Education SA to develop models of gifted education that can be implemented across a range of contexts throughout the system, to ensure all students can thrive.

The research is being conducted by Dr Jae Jung, of the University of NSW, Gifted Education Research, Resource and Information Centre (GERRIC).

Dr Jae Jung is a leading researcher on the decision-making of adolescents on topics such as careers, university entrance and friendships, usually incorporating motivational and cultural perspectives.

Webinar – Career pathways for Gifted Students

All survey participants will also have the opportunity to participate in a free webinar.

The webinar will explore how gifted students form ideas and make decisions about careers and future education pathways. Dr Jae Jung’s research looks at how young people can make decisions based on passion and skills and consider more than the stereotypical pathways for high achievers.

Dr Jae Jung will host the webinar on Zoom. Survey respondents will receive a link to join the webinar.
