Australian Curriculum Lessons

In this lesson students develop knowledge about personal, social & community health, with a focus on contributing to healthy and active communities. The lesson offers students opportunities to develop understandings about healthy eating practices, so that they can make healthy lifestyle choices.

Drink Smart

Drink Smart is a resource created by the Australian Government Department of Health. Students examine a variety of drinks and learn how to make healthy drink choices.

Dartboard Drinks 

Dartboard Drinks is a resource created by the Australian Government Department of Health. Students participate in a game where they try to identify the amount of sugar found in common drinks.

Education Department SA: Healthy Lifestyles Unit

This resource (pages 10 to 19 for Years 3-7) provides focused inquiries into making healthy choices including: 

  • Analysing and evaluating food and drink choices 
  • Understanding key message of the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating and the Dietary Guidelines 
  • Identifying strategies to increase the consumption of a variety of fruit and vegetables 
  • Evaluating eating choices and making changes to improve healthy eating 
  • Communicating to others the importance of including a variety of fruit and vegetables as part of healthy eating

Healthy Eating Advisory Service: Improving Wellbeing Through Healthy Eating

Using games and activities is a great way to help children learn about healthy eating while having fun at the same time!  These ideas can be used to engage children in healthy eating experiences, teach them to recognise different foods and encourage them to experiment with new foods, tastes, flavours and texture.

In Years 3-6 students develop knowledge, understanding and skills to create opportunities and take action to enhance their own and other’s health.  Students also explore a range of factors and behaviours that can influence health, safety and wellbeing.
