Applying for a Catholic Education Office Position

The Catholic Education Office (CEO) is committed to the wellbeing of its employees and their relationships and implements policies, procedures and practices that develop a culture of recognition of the importance and place of each employee within the organisation. It draws on its Catholic heritage and foundations to inform and direct its work.

Some CEO positions will require the applicant to possess current Teacher Registration and Accreditation to teach in a Catholic school. Further information is available at the TRB website at; www.trb.sa.edu.au.

All CEO positions require good character screening processes, including a current police clearance.

For CEO positions which require teacher registration a current Teacher's Registration Certificate will act as evidence of an acceptable police clearance.

For positions that do not require current teacher registration applicants will be required to hold or obtain a current acceptable police clearance.  A current letter of clearance issued by the Archdiocesan Police Check is one form of acceptable clearance.  Please contact the Police Check Unit for further information via Phone: 8210 9383 or email: receptionpcu@adelaide.catholic.org.au.

All CEO positions are subject to ongoing police checks at regular intervals throughout employment.

Under our Child Protection practices, it is a requirement that an Applicant Declaration Form (which is available for download below) be completed and submitted with an application for any position within Catholic Education SA.

All staff are required to complete the full 7 hour RAN-EC training and to undertake regular refresher updates which address the legal requirements of adults working with children and reporting suspected child abuse. This training forms part of the registration requirements for staff where current teachers registration is a requirement. 

Training is available at the CEO (register here) or though ACESS Programs.

Staff who are required to have teacher registration are required to complete a Basic Emergency Life Support Certificate or equivalent either prior to commencement or within six months of commencing employment.  Staff who have been designated as a Senior First Aid Officer by the CEO are required to have a Senior First Aid Certificate.  Further details are available through Red Cross or St John's Ambulance.

International applicants should contact the Department of Immigration & Multicultural Affairs in relation to obtaining a Visa which enables them to work in South Australia.  Further information is available http://www.immi.gov.au

Writing an application

CEO positions are advertised on the Positions Vacant page with some positions also advertised in other media (eg. Seek.com.au, The Advertiser and/or The Australian). All positions advertised will ask applicants to contact the Human Resource Officer at the CEO for further information about the position.  It is essential for potential applicants to obtain this information prior to applying for any position as it will outline, what criteria must be addressed in the application, the number of pages which may be submitted for the application and other information relevant to the specific position you are applying for.

When applying for a position in the CEO applications are addressed to the Director c/- Assistant Director, People & Culture.

For a position in the CEO it would usually be appropriate to include a list of 3 current referees, relevant to the position.  One of your referees must be your most recent or current employer.

It is essential that you seek your referees' permission to list them as willing to speak about you in relation to this position.  Some positions will require one referee to be a Leader of a Eucharistic Community (often your Parish Priest or Pastor).

Some CEO positions may require applicants to have a current driver's license, to travel intra and interstate or to have recognised qualifications and/or industry training.  It is important to provide information and/or evidence with your application to demonstrate your suitability for the position.
