New Hove school progressing

The opening of a new Catholic Reception to Year 6 school at Hove has moved a step closer following the appointment of Amanda Parslow as the principal.

McAuley Community School will be built on the site of the former Marymount College, which is now part of Sacred Heart College. It will be co-located with a new Catholic early learning centre that will care for up to 90 children aged 3 to 5. Both will open at the start of 2020.

McAuley Community School will include specialist STEM, sport and arts facilities, together with a research and innovations centre. The school will also have a strong focus on ecology and will be the first five green star rated school in South Australia.

Mossop Constructions has been appointed as the builder for the development and preparation for construction has commenced. Major building work will commence once students from the Marymount campus have moved to Sacred Heart Middle School campus at Mitchell Park in 2019.

Ms Parlow, who is currently principal of St Anthony’s Catholic Primary School at Millicent, will take up the position as principal from Term 4 this year.

Announcing her appointment, Catholic Education SA Director Neil McGoran said Amanda was a highly respected and experienced educational leader with strong strategic leadership experience.

“She has a deep personal faith and a commitment to improving learning outcomes for all students,” he said.

“Amanda brings to this principal position energy, enthusiasm and high expectations for ensuring excellence in this new Catholic school.  Amanda has a vision for STEM and contemporary, innovative learning spaces, pedagogy and curriculum.”

Students from St Teresa’s School at Brighton will transfer to the new school in 2020.

Dr McGoran said Ms Parslow would work with the St Teresa’s community over the next 15 months to ensure a smooth transition to the new school environment.
