Now in its ninth month of operation, the Rosewater Trade Training Centre (RTTC) continues to provide hands-on opportunities for secondary school students, equipping them with the skills to enter their chosen trade and enhance their future career pathways while finishing school.
The Centre, a collaborative initiative between Mount Carmel College, Nazareth Catholic College and St Michael’s College, offers trade training in the fields of Manufacturing & Engineering, Hairdressing & Beauty Therapy, and Building & Construction. The state of the art facility is located adjacent Mount Carmel College in Rosewater.
Year 11 Mount Carmel College student, Rhys, is in his second year of training in Engineering: Metal Fabrication through the RTTC. Rhys believes his future goal to become an engineer with the Australian Submarine Corporation (ASC) has been strengthened by the opportunities presented by the RTTC.
“I have a real interest in engineering and once I finish school, I am hoping to move into an engineering career, specifically boiler making,” Rhys said.
“But I want to finish Year 12 first and this has given me the opportunity to gain skills for future reference and still get my SACE. The RTTC is a really good environment to learn in. The trainers are excellent and they really challenge us and teach well.”
Year 12 Mount Carmel College student, Alana, is studying Certificate II in Hairdressing with a Beauty Focus. She wants to complete a four year hairdressing apprenticeship and then look at becoming a Police Officer.
“I find that studying Year 12 subjects and fitting in training can be a challenge at times, but I definitely enjoy the hands-on aspects of the course,” Alana said.
“Once I gain my trade qualification in Hairdressing, I will always have it as a backup if I decide to leave the Police Force down the track. My ultimate goal then is to own my own salon.”

Reception students who join a 2024 mid-year intake at a Diocesan Catholic school will get free tuition in Terms 3 and 4.
