After winning a Parent Initiatives in Education (PIE) grant through the Federation of Catholic School Parent Communities and much organising, the St Columba’s Parents and Friends held a breakfast for students, parents and other invited guests on Monday morning, 23 February.
The school resembled the ‘Masterchef’ kitchen with Parent/Chef Ian Cartwright and his wife Sharen from the Inland Sea Restaurant at Warooka leading the team. Ian demonstrated how to make breakfast cups, a very quick and tasty idea for not only breakfast but for school lunch boxes as well.
Local Community Health was represented by Vanessa and Kate who provided fresh fruit and yoghurt for the morning and were available for a range of health and dietary advice. Bacon and egg rolls, homemade toasted muesli, fresh fruit muffins, fruit juice and coffee were also prepared and shared.
After breakfast, parent and personal fitness trainer Nat Mackinlay had the children exercising and dancing up a storm – even a few parents joined in! The ‘Chicken dance’ was extremely popular.
The school community considers itself fortunate to have extremely talented people involved and thanks are extended to these community members for generosity with both their time and talents.
