Celebrating Advent and Christmas

May the Joy and Peace that the Christ Child brings be with you this Christmas and Always.

Like all Catholic schools across South Australia, Our Lady Queen of Peace School community are celebrating Advent and Christmas.  Children and their extended families at the school gathered on Friday evening 5 December for carols as a community celebration of Advent and Christmas.  Much to the children’s delight this year the narrator for the Nativity Story was ‘Albert’ the puppet with whom they are so familiar.

The evening began with a whole school song to welcome the community followed by short re-enactments of Jesus’ birth story. Teachers told the story whilst their students did the acting and each part ended with a Christmas carol.

But at the beginning of the performance of the Nativity Story, it was ‘Albert’ who introduced the students as they came onto the stage. ‘Albert’ is often used in Religious Education lessons with Junior Primary children.  He generally features at the end of a lesson when he asks the children to explain to him what they have been learning about. The students love ‘Albert’ and they were very surprised to see him narrating and joining in the singing on the night.

The spirit of the Season was well and truly present in the children’s re-enactment of the Nativity Story and in the school community’s engagement with the program and carols.  The students are already looking forward to next year’s presentation!
