The 2014 Catholic Schools Music Festival was held in the last week of term 3 from Monday 22 to Thursday 25 of September, and was another artistic triumph.
The Festival Choir, conducted by Music Director Denise Rothall, represented 65 schools over the four performances. Students from as far away as Pt Lincoln, Murray Bridge, Wallaroo and Whyalla joined forces with students from metropolitan schools from Aldinga to Evanston, and all stops in between, to entertain their family and friends.
Support Acts featured students from twenty-one schools and the variety and talent that these soloists, duets and ensembles showcased was amazing. Items ranged from the ethereal sounds of Claude Debussy’s “La Fille aux cheveus de lin” performed by Loreto College student, Philippa McAuliffe, on the harp to Sacred Heart College Middle School’s Drum Corps performing “The Game”, which turned basketballs into percussion instruments.
There is a long-held tradition of the final song of the night being a medley where the Festival Choir and pianist, Pamela Buccini are joined by the band, Senior Boys Vocal Ensemble and String Ensemble. This year it was a commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Beatles’ visit to Adelaide in 1964. The performances finished with a stirring rendition of the Lennon-McCartney classic “Hey Jude”.
On the opening night of the Festival Dr Paul Sharkey, Director of Catholic Education South Australia, was proud to host His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AO and Mrs Lan Le, who thoroughly enjoyed the performance.

Reception students who join a 2024 mid-year intake at a Diocesan Catholic school will get free tuition in Terms 3 and 4.
